Fort Lewis College’s star guard Akuel Kot is heading to Laramie, Wyoming and the Mountain West Conference.
Kot committed to the University of Wyoming on Tuesday, according to UW’s men’s basketball team, to play his senior season at the Division I level.
Kot, a 6-foot-2 guard from Amarillo, Texas, played four seasons for FLC, but broke out this season. He started 15 games as true freshman in the 2029-20 season, averaging 11.8 points per game. He only started one of his 16 games in 2020-21 and averaged 8.3 points per game.
In 2021-22, he started to emerge as one of top players in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, scoring 16.6 points per game to rank 10th.
This winter he upped his game even more and scored 24.3 points per game in 33 contests, helping FLC win the RMAC regular-season and tournament titles.
Kot set the program’s single-season scoring record in the 2022-23 season with 801 points and the single-game scoring record with 45 points. He earned both first team NABC and second team D2CCA All-American nods for the Skyhawks this winter.
He’ll leave FLC ranking fifth in all-time career scoring with 1,712 points, 10th in all-time field goals made with 544, sixth in all-time three-point field goals with 188, third in all-time free throws made with 436 and 23rd in all-time career steals with 96.
Another All-American from the RMAC, Joel Scott of Black Hills State University, is also heading to the Mountain West Conference. Scott, the 2023 D2CCA National Player of the Year, is transferring to play for Colorado State University.
Wyoming finished 9-21 overall and 4-14 in the Mountain West during the 2022-23 season, splitting its two games with CSU (15-18, 6-12).
