The future remains bright for the Bayfield High School girls soccer team.
Three of the six Wolverines recognized by the Southwest Soccer League on its all-conference team will be back next year.
Juniors Maddy Duran and Bryannah Isiordia and seniors Meaghan Mooney and Andrea Zelinski made the first team, while senior Koya Maniss and sophomore Kailee Millard received honorable mention.
“I’m looking forward to having them as leaders,”,” BHS head coach Jen Zelinski said of her juniors. “I see drastic improvement from them year over year.”
Andrea Zelinski led the league with a school-record 13 assists, while Duran scored 13 goals, good for fourth in the league.
She was Bayfield’s top scorer last season, as well.
Mooney scored five times while primarily playing on Bayfield’s back defensive line.
Isiordia also played in the Wolverines’ defensive back four.
Maniss scored five times for BHS, while Millard played in goal for much of the season.
Millard also was named the conference’s Keeper of the Year.
Pagosa Springs’ Jo Laverty received Player of the Year recognition after scoring 17 goals with nine assists.
The Coach of the Year award was a five-way tie, coach Zelinski said.
