Ridgway ended the Ignacio High School girls basketball team’s eight-game winning streak in overtime Friday.
The Demons made clutch free throws in the extra session to prevail 54-49.
“We missed three layups in the overtime period,” IHS head coach Shane Seibel said. “They were able to convert some of their free throws and walk away with it.”
IHS (12-4, 8-1 San Juan League) played without Hilda Garcia and Ellie Seibel late because they fouled out but still had a chance to win the game in regulation down one with six seconds left.
Senior Sky Cotton was fouled and made one of two free throws.
Freshman Avionne Gomez led IHS in scoring with 13 points as part of a bench that erased a 12-point deficit in the third quarter.
“We played a whale of a game. I thought the same with Ridgway,” coach Seibel said. “It’s good to go through a good, close game like that. We gotta get over it real quick.”
The Bobcats play at Nucla at 2 p.m. Saturday.
