DURANGO CITY COUNCIL
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Durango City Council will conduct a public hearing on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 during the regular Council Meeting scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 949 Second Avenue. This is a request to hold a public hearing to consider an ordinance regarding the proposed text amendments to the City of Durango Code of Ordinances Chapter 27, the Land Use and Development Code regarding electric fences and mats, and related definitions. At the direction of City Council, Community Development Department staff are proposing Text Amendments to the Land Use and Development Code (LUDC) and Code of Ordinances related to electric fences and mats. These LUDC and Code of Ordinances Text Amendments introduce standards and a process by which electric fences and mats may be permitted to increase public safety by deterring wildlife, such as bears, from human spaces.

Written comments (or emailed comments which can be sent to PublicComment@DurangoCO.gov) from those who cannot attend but want their opinions considered in Council’s deliberations must be received by noon on Monday, February 2, 2026 by the City Clerk’s office, 949 Second Avenue, Durango, CO 81301. Further information concerning the proposal is available between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. from the Community Development Department at 215 East 12th Street, or at 970-375-4850.
