Forest wants your views on recreation

The public is invited to a workshop from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. May 6 at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave., to help the San Juan National Forest begin an evaluation and prioritization of recreational facilities and programs.

Public comment will be used to supplement and inform a forest-wide recreation-site analysis of all facilities, such as campgrounds and trailheads.

Detailed information also will be available about related programs, such as trails and special-use permits. As part of a national and regional effort to trim federal budgets, the San Juan’s recreation budget is expected to decrease during the next three years by as much as 30 percent as the agency realigns funding to balance workforce capability with public needs.

For more information, call Brian White at 385-1246.
