Photos: Beaver bites

Two large cottonwood trees show beaver activity Wednesday along the Animas River near Ninth Street Bridge. When Durango Parks and Recreation notice beaver activity, employees visit the site to place wire cages around trees worth protecting. Yet, some trees are left as a food source for the beavers. Parks and Recreation asks the public notify the city when beaver activity is seen around town so city forest employees can assess the situation. (Jerry McBride/Durango Herald)
