First of all, I’d like to say how much I admire the Durango Board of Education who do such a marvelous job of guiding our schools while attempting to satisfy all of their constituents. Not an easy job, no matter how hard they try. Case in point, the proposal to display the highly politicized Black Lives Matter and gay pride flags at our schools.
What about recognizing other minorities? How about Blue Lives Matter? The honest and hardworking members of law enforcement out there every day putting their lives on the line to protect everyone’s rights. Are they less deserving of recognition?
Or how about the biggest minority in our area: Mexican Americans? It would be much more productive and support more children to recognize their struggles.
The United States flag is rightfully flown at our schools because it stands for everyone’s rights and freedoms, not just a minority or two that happen to be current favorites of the political Left. Isn’t that something worth teaching our children?
Respectfully submitted,
