Bloomfield welcomed the Bayfield girls basketball team to Bobcat Gymnasium in New Mexico last Friday night and pulled away late to win 47-24.
Unfortuantely for Bayfield, Bloomfield had most of the roster which reached last season's 4A Sweet 16 in state basketball,
Junior post Destiny Walther, the hero in the previous night's upset of 5A Farmington Piedra Vista, was essential in aiding the home team's second-half separation against the Wolverines, netting eight of her team-leading 13 points. Bayfield (2-3, 0-0 3A Intermountain) had managed to stay within 10 points prior to the period.
BHS Head Coach Lana Killough was out of town and unable to report statistics until after press time.
After Christmas break, the Wolverines start their season at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7 against Piedra Vista High School of Farmington.
