As a mix of winter and spring weather hit Durango, a mix of winter and spring sports hit the local sports schedule.
The Durango girls basketball team has a huge home playoff game against Montrose on Wednesday. Fort Lewis College spring sports, softball and women’s lacrosse continue while Durango girls soccer, boys lacrosse and girls lacrosse begin their spring sports seasons. Here’s the local sports schedule for the upcoming week:
Fort Lewis College men’s basketball:
The Skyhawks men’s basketball team played Colorado Mesa on Tuesday night in the quarterfinals of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament. However, the results weren’t available by press time. If the Skyhawks won, No.6 seed FLC will play the winner of No.2 Regis and No. 7 UCCS on Friday at the highest remaining seed in the semifinals. If FLC wins in the semifinals, it will play on Saturday in the tournament final.
FLC softball:
After losing four games last weekend, the Skyhawks softball team will play four games at UCCS on Saturday and Sunday. FLC enters the series 2-14 overall and 1-10 in the RMAC, while UCCS is 11-9 overall and 6-5 in the RMAC.
The first game on Saturday will be at noon while the second game on Saturday will be at 2 p.m. Sunday’s first game will be at 11 a.m. and the second game will be at 1 p.m.
FLC women’s lacrosse:
The Skyhawks women’s lacrosse program is looking for its first win of the season at CSU Pueblo on Sunday at 1 p.m. FLC is 0-3 overall and so far, its closest margin of defeat is eight goals.
CSU Pueblo is 0-4 overall as both teams begin RMAC play.
High school sports:
Wednesday:
Durango girls basketball at home vs. Montrose in 5A Sweet 16 at 7 p.m. The No. 8 Demons are 18-6 overall while the No. 9 Red Hawks are 20-4 overall. Montrose beat Durango twice in the regular season. If Durango wins, it will play the winner of No. 1 seed Air Academy and No.16 Northridge on Friday in the Great 8 in the Denver Coliseum.
Thursday:
Durango girls varsity tennis at Steamboat Springs at noon.
Friday:
Demons girls varsity tennis at Western Slope Open
Durango girls varsity soccer at Cherry Creek at 3:30 p.m.
Ignacio boys basketball vs. Resurrection Christian at 4 p.m. in 3A state playoffs.
No. 1 seed Resurrection Christian is 23-0 overall and No. 32 seed Ignacio is 11-12 overall.
Ignacio girls basketball vs. Cedaredge at 5:30 p.m. in 3A state playoffs.
The No. 29 seed Bobcats are 8-14 overall and are facing No. 4 Cedaredge at 23-0 overall.
Bayfield boys basketball vs. Peyton at Centauri at 7:30 p.m in the first round of the 3A state playoffs. The No. 21 Wolverines are 15-8 overall and No. 12 Peyton is 15-7 overall.
Saturday:
Durango varsity track and field, Bayfield track and field Dust Off Meet at 9 a.m.
Durango girls varsity soccer at Ralston Valley at 10 a.m.
