A tough weekend road trip against Class 3A/2A Intermountain League foes proved a true test for the Bayfield High School volleyball team.
The ninth-ranked Wolverines would split the trip with a 3-1 win Friday night against Centauri and a 3-1 loss Saturday at No. 5 Alamosa.
In Friday’s win at Centauri (27-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-16), the Wolverines (2-2, 1-2 IML) saw Melissa Roberts go for 19 kills, while Macee Schulz added 15. Emily Nelson had 12 digs, while Sage Killough distributed 39 assists.
“The team served strong and forced the Centauri offense off the net,” said BHS head coach Terene Foutz.
The Wolverines tallied nine blocks as a team in that win.
Alamosa (3-1, 2-1 IML) got the better of the Wolverines Saturday with a four-set win (26-24, 21-25, 25-17, 25-22.)
Schulz would lead the Wolverines with 16 kills and four blocks. It was unforced errors that killed BHS in the loss. Foutz said the team had 18 attack errors.
“We will regroup and prepare for tough matches next week,” she said.
BHS will host Pagosa Springs at 6 p.m. Friday and visit Durango at noon Saturday.
