April showers bring more than just May flowers to Durango; they bring an absolute downpour of artistic talent and entertainment to the Durango Arts Center. This month, our doors are bursting with a lineup so vibrant, you’ll find yourself coming back again and again.
Kicking off with a swing this weekend, immerse yourself in the rhythms of the Ragtime and Early Jazz Festival and be transported to a bygone era. This festival promises to be a delightful journey through the roots of American music, perfect for both seasoned aficionados and curious newcomers. Just when you think the energy can’t get higher, the Bluegrass Meltdown hits the DAC on April 11 to 13. Prepare for a weekend of the down-home spirit that makes you feel like part of the family. Whether you’re a die-hard bluegrass fan or just looking for a lively time, this year’s meltdown is not to be missed.
On April 18, prepare to have your funny bone tickled by Lower Left Improv. It’s a spontaneous, unpredictable and utterly hilarious experience that guarantees a night of nonstop laughter. For a touch of nostalgia, join us for DAC Classic Movie Night on April 19. We’re rolling out a special double feature: the quirky 1960 horror-comedy “Little Shop of Horrors” and the chilling sci-fi classic, “The Last Man on Earth.” It’s a perfect blend of laughs and thrills, and a chance to see these cinematic gems on the big screen. The comedy doesn’t stop there! On April 25, the Stand Up for Local First event will showcase some of the best comedic talents our community has to offer – and all for a great cause.
In our gallery on April 11, we’re thrilled to open “That’s So Durango,” a new exhibit celebrating the unique spirit and character of our beloved town. This collection of art, running through May 24, captures the essence of Durango, from its breathtaking landscapes to its vibrant community. It’s a love letter of art to our home.
At the heart of the Durango Arts Center lies a vibrant and passionate creative community. We are deeply honored and incredibly happy to provide a home for these events, fostering a true community feel. These gatherings are not just performances; they are celebrations of local talent, shared experiences and the powerful bonds that art creates. We believe in nurturing and supporting our community’s creative spirit, and we are thrilled to see the theater and gallery alive with the energy and passion of Durango’s artists and audiences alike. It is this collaborative spirit that makes the DAC such a special place and a cornerstone for creativity and connection in our town.
At the DAC, we believe in the power of art to connect, inspire and entertain. This April, we’ve got a lineup that has something for everyone. We can’t wait to see you there, ready to experience the magic of art and community.
