A technical issue with Durango Emergency Communications Center’s 911 line that required the 911 center to reroute emergency calls to its administrative line has been resolved.
Service was restored at 11:37 a.m., but another technical issue with the 911 center’s CodeRED alert system delayed alerts from being delivered promptly, Waverly Lopez, 911 operations manager, said.
La Plata County issued a text message and automated phone call about 2:45 p.m. Tuesday informing residents the service had been restored in La Plata County.
The 911 line went out at 9:37 a.m. because of an issue on the 911 center’s telephone service provider’s end. It was uncertain how long the outage would last, said Lopez.
For the duration of the outage, 911 calls were rerouted to the 911 center’s administrative line, 385-2900. Dialing 911 still connected callers to an emergency dispatcher, but would not provide dispatchers with a callback number.
“It’s a little more efficient for us if people can dial the administrative line. That gives us a little bit more information on our end to be able to assist them,” she said shortly after the technical issue occurred on Tuesday morning.
