The Sarah Platt Decker Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, has launched its new program “Community Classrooms.”
The program works with teachers to provide additional support to children in classrooms and schools in the community. It also provides lesson plans that enable teachers to relay the story of the development of the United States.
Members recently delivered “Sunshine Boxes” to first graders of Park Elementary, Ignacio Primary School, Bayfield Elementary, Pagosa Peak Open School and Pagosa Springs Elementary. The pencil were boxes filled with pencils, erasers, pencil sharpeners, glue sticks and Kleenex. Boxes of crayons were also prepared and delivered, along with copies of the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Sarah Platt Decker Chapter is a nonpolitical service organization meeting August through May. Membership is open to all women 18 or older who can prove lineal, bloodline descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence.
