Sheriff and police chief missed the mark

It was great to see hundreds of people show up at the vigil to honor Charlie Kirk. However, Sheriff Smith and Chief Current both grossly misread the audience.

Christians gathered to remember one who was martyred for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Both Smith and Current condescendingly lectured the attendees not to resort to violence against those who disagree with us. This was the wrong audience for that message.

Remember the violent riots of Marxist BLM and the violent rhetoric of LGBTQ? Would you have given this message at a vigil for George Floyd or a pride parade?

We follow Christ, the Prince of Peace. We are commanded against vengeance, including vigilante murder. God’s word tells us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us.

The Bible says murderers who claim to be Christians are not Christians. Someone who identifies as Christian while not actually being a Christian is not a Christian at all, but a liar.

God will carry out perfect vengeance and justice according to his plan. The government, through law enforcement and the judicial system, is ordained by God to protect the defenseless and innocent in the face of violence and is God’s ordained institution to execute his vengeance.

Thank you, Sheriff Smith and Chief Current, for the role you both play in keeping us a safe, well-ordered community. Please set politics aside and acknowledge who stands with you for justice and peace.
