Congratulations, Santa Fe, for officially stopping water fluoridation. The city cited rising costs and ongoing research showing negative health effects. Cost: $1/2 million to keep this corrosive substance in the water.
The health consequences to our brains are real. Although dentists describe fluoride as a great natural substance for your teeth, research says something much different. The prestigious Cochran Report (300,00 researchers) determined no significant reduction in cavities. The latest systemic review – 21 studies – found fluoridation only improves permanent teeth by 3% in children. The Lotus study (2024), the largest ever done, analyzing 6.4 million adolescents and adults found a minuscule 2% lower cavities in permanent teeth. A far cry from 25% touted by the dental community.
Boston, New York, Cincinnati and Pittsburg report fluoridation hasn’t prevented cavities in low-income children. San Antonio (2011), “After 9 years and $3 million of adding fluoride, research showed tooth decay hasn’t dropped among the poorest children, but has increased 13% this year.”
And claims that fluoride is natural are totally bogus. The fluoride used in Durango is the toxic waste product from aluminum manufacturing, imported directly from China, and reported by an independent lab in Colorado to contain toxins such as lead, aluminum, arsenic, uranium, strontium and tungsten. Not naturally occurring fluoride. Never was.
Maybe it’s the dental lobby, which spent $3,615,000 in 2024 on 62 lobbyists to promote fluoridation and hide the fact that fluoridation cannot be safe.
Write to your City Council members and get this toxin out of our water.
