Don’t trash good food, feed families

In a postcard dated Oct. 27, 2025, I wrote the following to President Donald Trump:

Since SNAP, or once called food stamps, is gone the first week of November for about 40 million folks with children, please make it impossible for food banks to get sued as well as grocery stores that would be willing to give away perfectly good items with expiration dates that are still safe 3-5 days later.

Walmart has a policy of throwing out perfectly good vegetables, fruit with a little bruise, say, on an apple, and dairy. If you could convince Walmart not to fear getting a lawsuit for products given away, I’m sure food banks would be filled to the brim consistently.

I know, like me, you are concerned about waste. Food is a precious commodity for all of us, and no one should go to bed hungry.

P.S. Any correspondence must be in postcard form, as letters will be suspected of containing Anthrax or other harmful substances and put in the trash bin at our Capitol in Washington, D.C. Do write postcards to our representatives with your concerns. I have had more than one POTUS and vice president write back to me.
