Donald Trump has heaped praise on a member of Congress, endorsing him for reelection in 2026, saying he’s “an incredible Representative for a Great People,” that “he is fighting tirelessly to Keep our now very Secure Border, SECURE, Support our Incredible Military/Veterans, Advance American Energy DOMINANCE, Grow the Economy,” and more. All this on his social media site, Truth Social.
As reported by Colorado Politics on Oct. 28, Trump included, “HE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN.”
The Representative? Jeff Hurd of Colorado’s 3rd District. (Trump also endorsed Colorado’s other three Republican Congressmen.)
Hope Scheppelman, the former vice chair of the state Republican Party, a Bayfield resident and a firm Trump supporter who has been looking forward to challenging Hurd in the party primary in June, said in response to the endorsement that the president’s staff has lied to him about Hurd’s positions. “His staffers are trying to put lipstick on a pig …,” she said (Colorado Politics, Oct. 28).
Scheppelman criticizes Hurd for speaking out against Trump’s pardons and commutations of the Jan. 6 participants, for his failure to vote to oust Rep. Ilhan Omar from her comments about Charlie Kirk, and for his support of public lands protection legislation. Doesn’t Trump know all that, she asks?
Surprisingly, at this moment, Trump has made it difficult for Scheppelman’s challenge. Will that continue, or change?
Today’s White House politics can be uncertain at best.
