What gets covered and why?

I was surprised that, once more, there was nothing in the paper on Pearl Harbor Day about Pearl Harbor Day. I'd like you to write a staff editorial about how you make decisions about which national, regional and local milestones to acknowledge. I think that would be interesting and also transparent to your readers about how that part of journalism works.

(Editor’s note: On the news side, the Herald recognized Pearl Harbor Day with a feature story on Emmett Kane, an eighth grader at Mountain Middle School, who published a 160-page book about World War II (Herald, Dec. 7). And thanks for the great idea about a future editorial. Look for it in 2026.)
