A widespread internet outage was reported Monday among Clearnetworx customers in Durango, Cortez, Farmington and Pagosa Springs.
Clearnetworx spokeswoman Sara McCombs said the outage was reported about 3:30 p.m. on the provider’s FastTrack circuit in the Durango and Farmington areas, with more reports coming in from Cortez and Pagosa Springs. She said that out of the company’s 20,000 customers, roughly 4,300 were affected by the outage.
The outage lasted until shortly before 7 p.m., when the company issued text messages and emails saying service had been restored.
Some home customers in the outage area reported having service.
McCombs said Tuesday morning that the outage was caused by an infrastructure failure in the company’s FastTrack fiber optics network, specifically an interconnect. Engineers had to manually reroute the internet service through a different part of the network to restore coverage.
“It failed, and we had to manually reroute the traffic,” McCombs said. “Normally that happens automatically, but in this case, it didn’t. Our engineers were able to identify the issue and got it corrected and it should not happen again.”
