One person died and two others were taken to the hospital with injuries Monday in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 550 south of Ridgway.

The crash, which involved a Dodge Caravan and a Ford F-350 hauling a trailer, occurred at 5:33 p.m. near milepost 103, according to a news release from the Colorado State Patrol.

A portion of Highway 550 between County Road 3A about 1 mile west of the Portland area and Colorado 62 in Ridgway was closed in both directions Monday night following the crash.

The road was open as of Tuesday afternoon, according to real-time data via COTrip.org.

The driver of a Dodge Caravan, a 34-year-old man, was pronounced dead on scene, and two of his passengers ‒ including a 12-year-old girl and a 74-year-old woman ‒ were taken via air and road ambulance, respectively, to a local area hospital, the release said.

The passengers’ conditions were not released as of Tuesday afternoon, and the identities of the drivers and passengers had also not yet been released.
