Officer Leonard Martinez with Durango Police Department releases a red-tailed hawk back into the wild Friday at United Campground north of Durango. A car struck the bird about two months ago on U.S. Highway 550 near the campground. Martinez was dispatched to the call, picked up the bird and took it to Durango Animal Hospital. The bird was transported to the Colorado Parks and Wildlife rehabilitation center in Del Norte where it made a full recovery.
