The Cortez Police Department announced this morning that the family of 17-year-old Shaylin R. Odell said she contacted her mother from a private number and is now safe and headed home.

Odell was reported missing in Cortez after several days without contact, prompting Cortez Police Department to ask for the public’s help out of the concern for her safety.

In a Facebook new release, the police department said Odell was reported missing Tuesday after going several days without contact, as well as missing school and some appointments. Odell hadn’t been to school or work but had friends in Towaoc, according to the post.

According to the release, Odell had last been seen April 15 by a parent in Cortez while a family member reported seeing Odell last Thursday. However, the family member also told police they received a Snapchat from Odell’s account Saturday.

Odell was entered into the National Crime Information Center and the Colorado Crime Information Center databases. The Colorado Crime Information Center portal is a state-level computer portal for crucial data managed in part by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
