Your primary ballot deserves careful attention

You’ve received your primary ballot in the mail. Please vote – it is so important for saving our democracy. If you are unaffiliated, you received both a Democratic and Republican ballot: vote only one.

If you lean left, there are two candidates for governor – Sen. Michael Bennet and Attorney General Phil Weiser. Bennet has seniority in the U.S. Senate and several years left in his six-year term. Let him keep that seniority. Weiser has worked for eight years as the people’s lawyer and has campaigned across the state; he deeply understands Colorado. He has my vote.

There are four Democratic candidates for state attorney general. Please look up each candidate’s website. Personally, I agree with the Herald's endorsement of Michael Dougherty; I met him recently and was impressed by his 30 years of legal and administrative experience.

I wish the Herald had endorsed Amanda Gonzales for secretary of state. I met her and was impressed by her extensive election experience as the Jefferson County Clerk, one of the largest in Colorado with a population of 470,000. She is the only candidate who has managed elections and has a law degree. Gonzales has managed her staff members in JeffCo – about the same size as the state secretary of state’s office – extraordinarily well. She has a Democratic opponent, so your vote in this primary matters.

There are other important contests on this ballot. Do your part for our democracy. Please vote and return your ballot by June 30.
