Mancos author, spiritual leader, healer, teacher and founder of Soulular Clarity, a vibrational healing practice, Karen Lovelien said she was compelled to get in touch with Chloe Rachel Gallaway.
Gallaway, an author, speaker and intuitive writing coach, was hosting a retreat in Las Vegas, New Mexico, and Lovelien felt she had to go.
“In meditation one day, I was taken to my computer and told what to type. And I typed and what came up was Chloe’s retreat – it was only five days ahead ... it just pulled me because I’m writing a book that includes stories of my life, but it isn’t totally a memoir; it’s more teaching and the stories on how I learned things. It just was pulling me, and the only way I could reach her was to type an email, so I typed an email and said I was interested,” she said, adding she didn’t get a response until the eve of the retreat. “The night before, I went to my computer and said, ‘Call me now, please.’ And she called. And someone had just dropped out.”
So Lovelien packed her bags and drove the 5½ hours to the retreat the next morning.
After the retreat came “Voices: Women braving it all to live their purpose,” written by Gallaway and featuring stories by Lovelien and Karen Ann Boise, Joan Teagle Brumage, Nicole “Nikki” Bruton-Phillips, Lori Cheramie, Connie C. Cox, Rusanne Jourdan, Andrea Roberts Parham, Shelley A. Rael and M. Jacquelyn Simpson.
The women tell stories of their lives and struggles to find the truth within their souls. In her story, Lovelien traces her spiritual journey.
She said she wants readers to take away from ‘Voices” the idea that the book isn’t just about women – all people can learn from the stories.
“It’s not just women – men really hold their stories, their vulnerabilities much closer, and don’t share. They often have a harder time saying what’s true for them,” she said. “It’s not men and women, it’s how we operate in our masculine and feminine. My biggest takeaway from it is for people to realize that they have choice moment to moment. Sometimes we don’t realize that and we end up compromising.”
Lovelien and Gallaway will be in Durango on Wednesday to read from and sign copies of the book.
