The San Juan String Band is scheduled to perform from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Cortez Public Library. The band will help the library launch its Wednesday Activities Club.

Smokey Bear is tentatively scheduled to make an appearance.

“The event promises to be a fun-filled hour,” said children’s librarian Laura McHenry.

Founded 10 years ago by Forester Sally Zwisler, the group of San Juan National Forest employees and volunteers brings the woods into schools and other programs.

The performance is free and open to all ages.

Other Wednesday Activities Club programs, for children ages 8 to 12, will be held from 2:30-4:30 p.m. in September. The free events are: Sidewalk Chalk Art on Sept. 12, Matinee Movie “Turbo” on Sept. 19 and Outside Fun and Games on Sept. 26.

The library is at 202 N. Park St. For more information, call 565-8117.
