La Plata County Humane Society emergency surgeries increase

La Plata County Humane Society has seen an immense increase in emergency medical cases since the beginning of the year.

Recent case include, Douglas, a cat brought in as a stray in February with a non-breakaway collar entangled his front leg and embedded under his arm and into his chest. Sunny, a 4-year-old pit bull mix arrived suffering from glaucoma, a painful eye condition that damages the optic nerves. The medical department decided to remove Sunny’s eyes completely so she could live a pain-free life. Douglas is recovering from his injuries and was reunited with his family. Sunny is quickly adapting to her life without sight and has been recently adopted.

With the growing need for emergency medical surgeries, LPCHS is asking for donations to help support its medical fund.
