Best bets this weekend in and around Durango

The self-guided nature trail at Purgatory Resort is a 1.7-mile loop following the Brush Rake Mountain Bike Trail.

San Juan Mountain Association has opened its self-guided nature trail at Purgatory Resort.

The route provides mountain views and wildflowers on a 1.7-mile loop that follows the Brush Rake Mountain Bike Trail. Visitors can pick up a brochure in the ticket office or at the trailhead.

Drive to Chairlift 4 by turning right on Hermosa Park Road when approaching the main parking lot at Purgatory. Follow the signs toward Elbert Creek Road. Turn left and follow the road to Lift 4. Drive past the lift to the red self-guided nature hike sign at the beginning of the Brush Rake Mountain Bike Trail or park by Lift 4 and walk.
