First Southwest Bank adds directors to board

Residents from Durango, Pagosa Springs, Alamosa named

First Southwest Bank recently appointed four new members to its board of directors: John Barlow “Barry” Spear of Durango, Bryan W. Dear of Durango, William Gerli Spears Jr. of Pagosa Springs and John Smith of Alamosa.

Spear has lived in Durango since 1977, worked at The Durango Herald as a reporter, and at Shand, McLachlan and Newbold, which became Shand, McLachlan, Newbold and Spear in 1990.

He took his practice to Maynes Bradford Shipps & Sheftel to provide it with a banking/civil litigation section, and, over the 36 years in the area, served on nonprofit boards of directors, including the Durango Film Festival, Durango Art Center, Durango Adult Education Center and Music in the Mountains.

Dear is from western Kentucky and founded The Payroll Department in Durango. He most recently served on the Community Foundation serving Southwest Colorado.

Spears has lived in Pagosa Springs since 1999 and owns Wolf Creek Broadcasting radio stations KWUF, KZBR and KALQ/KGIW in Pagosa and Alamosa. He serves on the Colorado State University Extension and 4-H Advisory board and is a member of the Rotary Club.

Smith is from Alamosa, has more than 40 years of experience in the technology industry. He is the president of the Tucson Botanical Gardens board of directors.
