Durango Public Library has a new collection designed to help adults discuss sensitive subjects with children.
According to a news release issued Friday, the materials, which include books, a guide on talking to kids about difficult subjects and a list of resources, are organized into “Tough Topics” bags in the children’s library and are available for checkout.
Each bag focuses on a different subject. Subjects include:Alcohol and addiction.Anxiety, depression and emotions.Bullying.Death and grief.Diversity, equity and inclusion.Divorce.Immigration and refugees.LGBTQ and diverse families.“We are happy to offer these bags as conversation starters to help families and caregivers broach difficult subjects, such as death and grief as well as timely topics like diversity and immigration that are important for children to understand,” said Callie Blackmer, library youth services supervisor, in the release.
