Durango Public Library’s summer reading programs begin Wednesday

Durango Public Library’s Summer Reading Programs for children, teens and adults will run from Wednesday to Aug. 1.

The Summer Reading Program encourages children to read or have someone read to them all summer. Reading together builds pre-reading skills in young children, and studies show older children who read during the summer go back to school with improved reading skills.

Prizes will be awarded to children who log 10 hours and teens who log 20 hours. Active participants in the program will also be eligible for weekly prize drawings.

Adults age 17 and older are invited to enter each book they read this summer for a try in a weekly prize drawing.

Because of COVID-19, in-person events will not be offered this year. The library will provide take-home program kits for children and teens that will be available every other Friday while supplies last.

Prizes and program kits will be available for curbside pickup from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday. To arrange a pickup, call 375-3380. Hours are subject to change.

Register online starting Wednesday at www.DurangoGov.org/library or call 375-3380. Participants may also sign up by emailing reference@DurangoGov.org.
