If you’re looking for live music, tonight’s the night.
iAM MUSIC will be hosting its #MUSICSAVES show at the Durango Arts Center. Featuring headliners Alpen Rising, Elder Grown Family (“Family” because the band will include members of Liver Down the River and other bands) and Hello, Dollface, the event will also highlight iAM MUSIC student performances by RubyBlu, Laney Rie and Celia +Elsa.
Ashley Edwards, a founder of iAM MUSIC and member of the band Hello, Dollface, says that not only are the students getting the opportunity to share their music at the show, but they’re learning – and earning – as well.
“They’re getting paid to be there,” she says. “They’re earning money to be at a gig, and they’re encouraged to promote their music they just released.”
It’s not just the student performers who will benefit from #MUSICSAVES: All proceeds from the evening will benefit iAM MUSIC’s scholarship fund.
“There are all these elements we’re trying to tie together at iAM MUSIC and create programming that fits and tailors to either the individual or the collective or the professional or the beginner,” Edwards says. “The purpose of iAM MUSIC is really to push people to realize their potential, whether it’s in their living room or with a social circle or in the professional music world.”
And not only is #MUSICSAVES a way to raise money for scholarships, it’s a way to show Durango what people at iAM MUSIC can do, Edwards says.
“This whole event is just about bringing people together and to really showcase the dynamic talent at iAM MUSIC, whether it’s staff or student – everyone’s got it going on,” she says.
