A 6th Judicial District judge sentenced a felon to six years of probation after he pleaded guilty to possession with intent to sell more than 100 grams of methamphetamine, court documents show.
According to an arrest affidavit submitted in August of last year, Isaiah Sandoval was in possession of a .40-caliber handgun with four rounds in the magazine and 3.3 grams of what police suspected to be heroin. It is against federal law for a felon to possess a firearm.
Sandoval was a passenger in a vehicle that police searched. Police found bags of meth that weighed more than 200 grams. Officers also found a small bag of crushed pink pills and a bag of 11 Oxycotin 80 mg pills, according to the arrest affidavit.
Sandoval was previously found guilty of felony menacing and drug trafficking in 2001, according to the arrest affidavit. His most recent arrest for meth was Aug. 29, 2017.
Sandoval pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute, according to a sentencing order. Three other charges – personal possession of a weapon by a felon, possession of a controlled substance and weapon possession by a previous offender – were dismissed by Deputy District Attorney Sean Murray.
In addition to a six-year probation sentence, District Court Judge William Herringer ordered Sandoval to pay $7,235 in fees, according to a sentencing order. Sandoval faced up to eight years in prison and $750,000 in fines, according to the plea agreement.
