Letter: Wendt’s website selfishly serves his political agenda

Harrison Wendt uses the issues of race, gender, class, etc. to selfishly serve his own political agenda.

Not only is he figuratively using the plight of other disadvantaged groups for his own selfish reasons, but he is also literally using the writings of minorities. Harrison has plagiarized some of the content on his website from minority leaders who ran for City Council in 2020 in his hometown of Minneapolis.

See for yourself, run the page https://www.harrison4durango.com/our-vision-for-durango through plagarismdetector.net. When you do you will see that Harrison has stolen website content from all Black leaders, including Andrea Jenkins (the first Black transgender woman to be elected to public office in the United States), Jeremiah Ellison, and AK Hassan, a Kenyan refugee.

Instead of being a champion for diversity and equity, what Harrison does is bully good people, loosely throwing around accusations like “transphobic” and “racist” just to get attention for his own campaign for City Council. This is very hypocritical.

When Harrison writes in his own words he uses words like target, enforce, prohibit and push. Wendt calls himself an “expert listener” but the only thing Harrison likes listening to is the sound of other people’s voices that he calls his own.

Harrison should cite r sources and give credit where credit is due. Maybe try not to use copy and paste next time. Plagiarism at its finest!

David MolerDurangoEditor’s note: Wendt said in an interview he intentionally borrowed language from others’ campaigns because he “holds the same core beliefs.” He later issued a written statement, saying in part, “I used and did not quote many words from Minneapolis City Council Candidate AK Hassan. For this, I apologize to my supporters and my community. Changes have been made on my website, and I will use better judgement when using words of others in the future.”
