A pedestrian was injured about 5:30 p.m. Monday in north Durango after being hit by a Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge train.
Two men were close to the tracks as the train traveled south past 31st and 30th streets, and one of them was injured, said Cpl. Juan Gallegos with the Durango Police Department.
The injured man was taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center to be treated, he said. Gallegos couldn’t comment on the extent of the man’s injuries, he said.
The other man was taken to Detox, he said.
Gallegos couldn’t say how close the men were to the tracks. He also couldn’t say if the train slowed down.
The train stopped about 5:30 p.m. for the injured man. It was released to return to the depot shortly after 6 p.m., said Christian Robbins, a spokesman with the railroad.
Passengers stayed on the train during the incident, he said.
