Cortez man arrested in connection with Ignacio death

50-year-old apprehended on suspicion of first-degree murder

Authorities have arrested a 50-year-old Cortez man on suspicion of first-degree murder in connection with an investigation into a death last week in Ignacio.

The La Plata County Sheriff’s Office on Monday announced Robert Dean Rose was arrested around 4 p.m. Sunday after being spotted at the Starbucks in downtown Durango.

Rose was booked into the La Plata County Jail without bail.

The Sheriff’s Office on May 13 responded to a home a few miles north of Ignacio in the 400 block of County Road 509 to investigate a deceased person found at the residence.

The person was identified as Mark Wayman, 65. La Plata County Coroner Jann Smith said Wayman died from a gunshot wound.

The Sheriff’s Office also said Monday the 2005 Dodge Neon that police were looking for has been recovered.

Chris Burke, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office, did not have additional information to release when contacted Monday afternoon.
