The Durango Elks Lodge veterans committee has been selling and encouraging people to wear red shirts on Fridays. On Friday, a group of people wearing the shirts posed under a banner on Main Avenue at Ninth Street to honor veterans. Businesses displaying a Red Shirt Fridays sticker will offer those wearing the shirt a discount on purchases.
Leslie and Skip Fontenot of Louisiana buy red T-shirts Friday for family members back home as Michelle Jones, a volunteer, assists them on Main Avenue. The Durango Elks Lodge veterans committee has been selling and encouraging people to wear red shirts on Fridays to honor veterans. Numerous Durango businesses also offer discounts to people wearing the shirts on Fridays.
