Axis Health System announces new staff

Axis Health System, a private, nonprofit serving the health-care needs of Southwest Colorado residents, welcomes these new staff members to its health-care team:

Dr. John Piccaro, a family physician, has joined La Plata Integrated Healthcare. Piccaro has spent almost 20 years in primary care in Colorado.

Andrew Grimm has been named the director of Integrated Clinics. Grimm is responsible for the implementation of Axis’ integrated health-care strategy, including outreach, enrollment and homeless services, across its integrated clinics that include Cortez Integrated Healthcare and La Plata Integrated Healthcare in Durango.

Sheryl Rorvig has been named the clinical manager. Rorvig will provide outpatient therapy for persons with acquired brain injuries and/or developmental challenges and co-occurring mental-health issues. She also is providing clinical supervision for community resource specialists and clinical therapists.

Ashley Petyak has been named the director of quality. Petyak is responsible for overseeing and enforcing Axis’s quality program, and recommending and implementing approved quality initiatives consistent with the health-care regulatory and a quality-of-care environment.

Chamber to host Table Top Expo

The Durango Chamber of Commerce will host a Table Top Expo from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio.

The event will feature more than 40 exhibitors, giveaways, door prizes and food.

The cost is $7 for chamber members and guests.

Locals to attend training conference

The Upper Pine River Fire Protection District, Evenings Porch Assisted Living and Comfort Keepers have been selected as winners of the 2015 NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) Remembering When Scholarship.

The team will attend a training conference on fire and fall prevention sponsored by the NFPA.

The conference, “Remembering When: A Fire and Fall Prevention Program for Older Adults,” will be held Nov. 4-6.

NFPA has selected teams from 30 communities across the United States and Canada to travel to Orlando, Florida, for the training.

Teams are composed of at least one member of the fire department partnered with an individual from an assisted-living agency and home health-care agency within the community that serves older adults.

Tom Kaufman, fire marshal of Upper Pine River Fire Department, is partnering with Erin Youngblood of Evenings Porch Assisted Living and Linda Schaffer, owner of Comfort Keepers.

Each award covers training, materials and travel expenses for team members.

After the conference, the team will return to their respective communities and conduct group presentations and training sessions to prepare additional facilitators.

Audubon Engineering has opened new office

Audubon Engineering Solutions announces it has opened a new office in Durango.

Audubon Engineering Solutions is a global engineering, procurement and construction-management services provider working for the oil and gas, petrochemical, refining and power industries.

The local engineering team will be led by Conor Feeney, Dustin Wilkinson and Jake Kapp

An open house will be held from noon to 7 p.m. Thursday at 161 Burnett Drive, Unit 4.

The open house will include food and drinks from Zia Taqueria and Ska Brewing.

There will also be door prizes that include an Apple Watch Sport and a Yeti Cooler.

50 businesses receive living-wage status

Thrive! Living Wage Coalition announces that in October the 50th Living Wage Employer has been certified in Southwest Colorado.
