As the community transitions to “Safer-at-Home” status, Centura Health offers important guidance with older adults and people of any age who have serious underlying medical conditions that places them at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19.
By following some basic guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, people at higher risk can lower their chances of getting sick with COVID-19:
Stay home if you are sick.Order online or use curbside pick-ups.Stay at least six feet away from others.Cover the mouth and nose with a face covering.If visiting someone is necessary, go when there are less people likely to be there.Look for stores that offer special hours for people with severe illnesses or higher risk.Bring disinfecting wipes and hand sanitizer.Wipe down carts and baskets in stores.Wipe buttons and handles before touching them or use hand sanitizer after.Hand sanitize after leaving stores.Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds upon arriving at a destination.When collecting mail, getting takeout or picking up a delivery, wash hands after transferring it.Bank online whenever possible. Use the drive-through if necessary.Wipe down gas pump handles and buttons before touching them, and consider using hand sanitizer or washing hands when done.
