The Wolverines will host the Bayfield Quad tomorrow (9 a.m.), already seeking to improve upon some impressive showings.
On the track, senior Eva-Lou Edwards most recently burned an 11:48.69 at the March 21 Aztec Icebreaker in the 3,200-meter run, easily winning. And in the field, classmate John Arnold's first-place 13 feet in the pole vault was six inches higher than his winner at the March 15 Piedra Vista Panther Invitational in Farmington.
Showing team-wide consistency, the Lady Wolverines placed fifth at both meets. The boys took fourth, then fifth.
Junior Aubry Brown helped set the rhythm in motion with discus wins at the Bird (140'10") and the Panther (133'0"), and the girls' 1,600-meter medley relay also prevailed at both with respective times of 4:44.35 and 4:55.10. Junior Trevor Gabbard ran a second-place 4:37.56 in the 1,600 meters at Farmington and followed with a fourth (in 4:48.84) at Piedra Vista. Junior Jessica Cusick ran the 400-meter dash with a second (1:02.82) at the former, and a first (1:03.19) at the latter. In Aztec, senior Ashlyn Schulder ran 14.31 in the 100-meter dash and Miranda Talbot did 20.76 in the 100m hurdles. Martina Moreno clocked 30.55 seconds in the 200, Brittany Hunter contributed a 1:06.77 in the 400, and the 4x100 relay (Morgan Allred, Trista Hooley, Amy Roach, Jessie Roukema) ran at 54.16 seconds. In the field, Jade Sanders recorded a 26'8.5" in the triple jump. Mikayla Westbrook flung the discus 83' 7", Jessica Kirk threw the javelin 71'4", and Hunter cleared 8'0" in the pole vault with Allred right behind at 7'6". For the Bayfield boys at the 'Breaker, Brian Mashak laid down an 11.99 in the 100 meters, and Brady Fields a 17.18 in the 110m hurdles. Gabe Kaufmann (24.49) and Zach Phelps (25.48) led the Wolverines in the 200 and Fields added a 41.99 in the 300m hurdles. Preston Hardy was the squad's swiftest in the 400 with a 56.26. Fields' 17'1.5" in the long jump led BHS in Aztec, but was well off Conner Kennedy's p.r. of 19'4.75" recorded the previous week in Farmington. Michael Voss' 12'6" in the pole vault was half a foot higher than his best at the PV Invite, and Geoff Pope also managed to clear nine feet. Brown heaved the shot 40'3", beating his previous week's 39'11" max, and Brandon Stuever bounded 32'8.25" in the triple jump. Kennedy cleared 5'8" at the PV Invite and 5'10" at the Early Bird in the high jump.
