The advisory says the system is 21 miles north of Durango and moving southeast at 15 miles per hour.
Dime-size hail and winds in excess of 40 miles per hour are possible.
“After this storm moves out, the storms will start winding down in the next couple hours,” Megan Stackhouse, a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, said at 5 p.m.
She said there will be a 20 percent chance of more thunderstorms Thursday night.
The Weather Service advises drivers to watch for flooded roadways from heavy rainfall.
