Sheep grazing is hurting Weminuche

Do you care about the Weminuche Wilderness? If so, read on.

From Sept. 7 to Sept. 10, I observed these conditions while hiking and camping in an area of the Weminuche Wilderness:

Degradation of the sub-alpine and alpine environment; Water sources compromised by domestic sheep; Negative impacts to the aesthetic aspects of the wilderness. Why is domestic sheep grazing allowed within Durango’s “protected” water source? The current issue of High Country News (www.hcn.org) has an article related to this problem. I urge everyone to read it!
