The City of Durango has contracted with Horsley Specialties, Inc. to complete the abatement of asbestos-containing materials from Mason Center, 301 E. 12th St, beginning Tuesday. Work is anticipated to be complete in mid-August.
The contractor is certified by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and will be responsible for removal, containment and disposal of asbestos-containing materials per federal and state regulations.
The contractor will utilize the parking lot on the northwest side of the intersection of East Fourth Avenue and East 12th Street to stage materials and equipment for the duration of the project. The neighborhood park, tennis courts and parking lot south of the tennis courts at the Mason Center will remain open to the public during the project.
