La Plata Electric Association recently installed two Level II ChargePoint electric vehicle charging stations at its Durango headquarters, 45 Stewart St.
Four outlets are available for members to charge vehicles at no cost.
“As a cooperative, LPEA always endeavors to support our members with any current concerns, but we’re also looking ahead and preparing for the future,” Mike Dreyspring, LPEA CEO, said in a release. “Electric vehicles are shifting the transportation-fuel market away from gasoline and toward electricity for their power, and we’re finding that our members are embracing these new, high-tech vehicles. Thus, local charging stations are growing in demand, so we want to help.”
The charging stations are clearly marked, and are along the north edge of the LPEA parking lot. The only thing needed to use them is an active ChargePoint card.
Consumers with any questions can talk to LPEA Customer Service Representative Donna Arriza, who is an expert at charging,
LPEA enhanced its electrical infrastructure at the location and applied for a “Charge Ahead Colorado” grant to finance the stations, which provided about $12,000 for the installation.
