Emotional win for Holmes highlights Sunday’s action
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – More than two years after going through brain surgery, J.B. Holmes won again on the PGA Tour.
Holmes rolled in a 3-foot bogey putt on the final hole at Quail Hollow for a 1-under 71 and a one-shot victory over Jim Furyk in the Wells Fargo Championship. Furyk had finished his Sunday-best 65 some two hours earlier.
It was a remarkable turnaround for Holmes, who won for the third time in his career. He had brain surgery twice in 2011. He hurt his elbow trying to return too quickly, and had surgery on that only after being sidelined with a broken ankle.
SINGAPORE – Chile’s Felipe Aguilar holed six birdies and then an eagle on the 18th to shoot a 28 on the back-nine and capture the Asian/PGA European Tour title at The Championship at Laguna National on Sunday.
Aguilar’s final round 10-under 62 gave him an overall 22-under 266, a stroke ahead of Denmark’s Anders Hansen and American David Lipsky in joint second.
IRVING, Texas – Stacy Lewis shot a 7-under 64 on Sunday to win the North Texas LPGA Shootout, finally getting another victory after six runner-up finishes in her previous 16 tournaments.
Lewis finished at 16-under 268, six strokes ahead of Meena Lee. That is the largest margin of victory on the LPGA Tour since Jiyai Shin won the 2012 Women’s British Open by nine.
Lee shot 70. Michelle Wie had a 67 to finish third at 9 under.
It was the ninth career LPGA Tour victory for Lewis and will boost the Texan from No. 3 to No. 2 in the world rankings.
THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Bernard Langer won the Champions Tour’s Insperity Invitational for the third time, closing with a 1-under 71 on Sunday for a one-stroke victory over Fred Couples.
Langer finished at 11-under 205 at The Woodlands to become the 10th 20-time winner on the 50-and-over tour.
The 56-year-old German player also won the 2007 event at Augusta Pines and successfully defended his title in 2008 at The Woodlands. He opened this season with a victory in Hawaii.

Berlocq beats down Berdych; Klizan takes BMW Open
OEIRAS, Portugal – Carlos Berlocq stormed back to beat top-seeded Tomas Berdych 0-6, 7-5, 6-1 and win the Portugal Open on Sunday for his second career title.
The Argentine shook off his poor start to prevail in the two-hour match on outdoor clay by converting seven of his 10 break points.
Berlocq earned a crucial late break in the second set to turn the match in his favor before breaking Berdych four more times to win the decider.
The 31-year-old Berlocq’s only other career title came last year at Bastad, Sweden.
MUNICH – Slovakian qualifier Martin Klizan defeated top-seeded Fabio Fognini 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the BMW Open final on Sunday for his second ATP World Tour title.
Klizan left center court briefly due to apparent stomach problems in the first set, before he rallied to win in just less than 90 minutes.
The 24-year-old Slovakian had lost his last three meetings with Fognini, but he defeated the 15th-ranked Italian in his only previous final, at St. Petersburg in October 2012.
