Centauri sets tone early to beat Bayfield

Holman’s 3s big for Falcons on road

Class 3A No. 5 Centauri continued to show it is the best team in a brutally tough Class 3A Intermountain League this season.

The Falcons (8-0, 4-0 IML) visited Bayfield High School for a boys basketball clash Friday and set an early tone with a 10-4 advantage in the first quarter. Centauri would win every quarter from there on out to secure a 48-36 victory.

Baron Holman was hot from 3-point range all night with three in the first half. He finished with a game-high 16 points to lead Centauri. Trey Crowther added nine points, while Mason Claunch had eight.

Landon Kennedy led Bayfield (4-4, 2-3 IML) with 12 points. Quintan Hunter finished with eight, and Kacey Chandler had five points in the loss.

BHS will look for a season sweep of Montezuma-Cortez when it hits the road to face the Panthers at 6:15 p.m. Thursday.
