We have been coming to Durango for well over thirty years, owning property in the Tamarron area, and now in Rockwood Estates.
We come here to enjoy all of what Durango has to offer, most of all, the peace and quiet of mountain living. We have enjoyed cycling and walking with families, pets, neighbors and friends on County Road 200, and throughout the other streets of the Rockwood area.
Much to our surprise, shock and dismay, we have learned that the D&SNGR has planned to run daily trains out of Rockwood. If permitted, now-tranquil County Road 200 will have hundreds of cars a day traveling in and out of the quiet Rockwood area.
Traffic from last year’s trains prompted Rockwood Estates to build a security gate. What will The Villages at Rockwood do with hundreds of cars circling their neighborhood each day? Obviously, this was planned some time ago as a new overflow parking lot was built near the station. Hundreds of daily cars will have serious impacts on tranquility, wildlife and personal safety.
Why were residents in this area not contacted? We have serious safety concerns that peaceful CR 200 is going to turn into your typical, busy urban thoroughfare, complete with accidents and congestion. There have already been problems with garbage, noise and transient activity in the area. This is a quiet mountain road that does not need orange cones or bright flashing lights. Please keep the departures in Durango.
