LOVELAND – A judge has ordered a mental health competency evaluation for a man accused of a 2015 roadside killing in northern Colorado.
The Loveland Daily Reporter-Herald reports that District Judge Susan Blanco ordered on Wednesday that the evaluation for Christopher Parker be done at the Larimer County Jail, where Parker is being held.
Prosecuting attorney Mitch Murray had recommended that Parker be sent to the state hospital in Pueblo for a full evaluation.
Parker’s attorney, Eric Vanatta, said sending Parker to the state hospital would further delay the case.
After deciding that a full-scale evaluation wasn’t necessary now, Blanco scheduled a status conference for Dec. 20.
Parker is charged with first-degree murder in the June 3, 2015, death of William Connole and attempted first-degree murder of another man the same night.
