Regis postpones basketball games with Fort Lewis College because of COVID-19

Skyhawks travel Saturday to face Mines, Friday games postponed

A weekend road trip to the Front Range has been cut in half for the Skyhawks. Not in terms of miles, but in terms of games.

Regis University announced Thursday that it would cancel its weekend basketball games against Fort Lewis College and Western Colorado University because of COVID-19 issues.

FLC’s teams will still travel Friday in preparation for Saturday games in Golden against Colorado School of Mines.

“Just have to always be ready to adjust,” FLC men’s head coach Bob Pietrack said.

Mines will still host Western Colorado for games Friday night, so the Skyhawks will go into Saturday fresh against Orediggers squads coming off a game the day before.

The FLC men (2-1, 1-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) have a tough task against the fifth-ranked Mines men (4-0, 3-0 RMAC) at 5 p.m. Saturday.

The Mines women (3-0, 2-0 RMAC) also will enter with an unblemished record this season and likely would be ranked nationally, but the first WBCA poll for Division II has yet to be conducted. Fort Lewis College’s women will look to build momentum after their first win of the season last Saturday at Colorado Christian that saw the Skyhawks improve to 1-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

FLC and Mines will meet in the women’s game at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Regis said it would work with Western Colorado and Fort Lewis to reschedule the games for a later date.

The FLC men have now had four games postponed while the women have had three postponements, all because of COVID-19 issues.
