The River Church and Elks Lodge are accepting donations for victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas.
The River Church will hold a “Durango Gives” fundraiser. It is being organized by Marilyn Rozak, Phelia Smith, Hannah Letzler and community volunteers
All donations will be given to Foursquare Disaster Relief to aid workers and communities in Houston with food, shelter and clean water. At this time, only monetary donations will be accepted.
“It is a blessing to be on the giving side and not on the receiving end of any disaster. It is so rewarding to see so many step up with their time and monetary donations,” Marilyn Rozak said.
People can donate online at www.trcdurango.com or by text-messaging “4relief” to 77977.

A Bayfield woman, Judy Blaisdell, is heading south this weekend to make repairs to her property in Bayside, Texas. She thought she could collect a few tubs of items she would distribute at the Bayside Community Center.
That has already grown to dozens of tubs.
“People in this community are so generous and caring and thoughtful,” she said.
Jay Lynch has offered his office space in downtown Bayfield, and donations arrived after only a few hours of her request going out on Facebook.
“It’s so nice to see what people have brought,” she said. “I’m amazed at the response. It just made me cry.”
Bayside is a small town near Victoria that was in the center of Hurricane Harvey.
Blaisdell said she is taking a truck and flatbed trailer to haul supplies. If she collects more than she can take on this trip, she has heard of other people in the area who are heading to Texas, and they can take any remaining supplies. An employee of the Southern Ute Tribe gathered several donations and filled the back of her car to deliver them on Tuesday.
Supplies can be donated at Lynch’s office at 104 E. Mill St. through Friday.
