Letter: Let’s have a conversation about rights

And Boulder makes seven. This year.

How many more? At what point in time will unfettered supporters of the Second Amendment come to the realization that they’re overtly and regularly failing to acknowledge, respect and uphold the rights to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness of innocent victims?

More guns do not make for a safer society. Hunters have a purpose for their long guns. Semi-automatic weapons have no useful purpose except for killing or maiming as many as possible as quickly as possible. Prayers, thoughts and condolences are once again called for, but by themselves don’t bring about any change. Shock, sadness and outrage dissipate.

The media moves on to the next big story.

Responsible gun owners, hunters, members of congress, senators, President Joe Biden, Chief Justice John Roberts; let’s have a conversation. Let’s work toward a future wherein mass shootings become a sad, but distant, memory.
